Hot and humid air welcomed us, and we headed to our cute hotel...
...with fab retro wallpaper!
The hotel has turned out to be fabulous, with such attentive staff and the owner Lek is such a lovely lady. We have been very well looked after! So if you're ever in Bangkok, stay at Sabai Sabai, it's super :)
So our stay in Bangkok was mainly to sort our Chinese visas, which due to timescale we could only apply for after we had left the UK. This in itself caused us further paperwork as we were now applying outside of our country of residence. Anyway, prepared with all our paperwork as per the Chinese Embassy in Bangkok website requirements we queued up on Monday morning to apply for our visas...
...fun times! Only to be told after queuing for 2 hours that we needed further papers to get our visas, and were handed a piece of paper with all the documents that were required. Who knows why this info does not comply with the list on their website, or in fact why this list is not on their website?! Hey ho... so, we returned the next day with the further papers...
...more fun times queuing. Anyway, 2 hours later we had the sacred pink slip in hand...
So, hopefully, we will pick up our passports next week complete with visas... fingers crossed! :)
With an afternoon free from visa homework, we managed to have a wander along the (very smelly) canals and visit 'The Golden Mount', a temple built on top of a hill (no surprises there) with some good views across the city, and some exceedingly flaky statues... which, of course, my camera and I loved!
We finished our day in style with dinner overlooking the city by night with Alex's friend Karla from his York uni days...

28 July. I'm catching up with your interesting blog news and am pleased to report that Brian is now back home and making a slow but good recovery.
