All that glitters...

I'm skipping back here a few days to our final days in Thailand, which were spent staying with Carla at her very lovely apartment on Soi 16. Interesting fact for the day: The main thoroughfare through Bangkok is called Sukamvit and all the roads coming off it are called Soi's... named chronologically. Sukamvit is the longest running boulevard in the world! It runs all the way from the western Thai coast to the Cambodian border!

So yes, our final days in Bangkok were spent with Alex taking me to the best (sports) bar in Bangkok...
...I'm such a lucky girl ;) Still, my husband was very happy as you can see...
...so yes, we had our 2nd Ashes action of the trip (yawn, sorry what? Oh yes, well done England).

We also checked out the local cinema with Carla to see World War Zee...
...fancy! Shame about the movie. Anyway Brad Pitt is always nice to see ;)

Carla also took us for a night out Bangkok style, which was much fun...
...if perhaps (yet again, we don't learn...) another bad idea before an early morning flight the next day! Ooopsies!

Bangkok, we likey! There's something about Bangkok, I think most people either love it or hate it. First time I went, I hated it. 2nd time round... I'm nearly there with 'loving it', which surprises even me! Maybe it's because last time Ciaran and I ventured to the backpacker mecca of Khao San Road with it's plastic coated bed sheets (gross), hot smelly streets, girly bars and cheap Louis Vuitton knock offs, but this time round it's been oh so different. We stayed further out and commuted into the centre with the locals on the sparkling new air con BTS skytrains, we sweated on the hot streets (which are now surprisingly clean with the huge recycling initiative that seems to be going on) sampling the street food, and perhaps having Carla to guide us to great little restaurants nestled in the hidden Soi's helped, but we really did keep discovering gem after gem of trendy little bars, shops and cafes. Maybe it's because we're City people at heart, but we really did have a soft spot for Bangkok! And there is the added bonus of pink taxi's ;)

One of our days there took us to The Grand Palace (actually, confusingly this is a complex of buildings, temples and wats not just a Palace!) a speedy skytrain and river boat trip away...

...I really started to think I would actually make a good Queen of Thailand if, as it seems, loving all things sparkly and glittery is the main criteria... ooooooOOOooooo just look how it sparkles!

So pretty! Which brings me onto yet another sparkly temple we saw whilst we were in Chiang Mai...

...hope you're not all templed out, as there is plenty more where these have come from ;)

Until next time! x x x
