Here's my Granny Margaret (mum's mum!) as a little girl with her sister Ruth and brother Stan behind. Such a lovely picture!
We visited Iris, Stan's wife, on our way to Wellington. I last saw Iris 6 years ago when Ciaran and I visited, and she was still as bright and spritely as she was then!
Here's Stan and Iris a few years ago now...
And in Wellington we stayed with Ken and Elizabeth (Elizabeth is Iris' daughter, and Mum's cousin... Which I believe makes me her 2nd cousin! They also leant us their cottage nr Taupo - remember?!).
Our time here in Welly was spent dodging the rain showers, and seeking out Granny Margaret's old home...
Tada!
It looked like it's just been bought and is in the process of being done up, which is lovely to see. Last time I saw it with Ciaran it was a terracotta colour... am quite liking it with it's fresh white new coat!
We also went to see the old library where Granny worked in the Children's library which is down the hill into town... it's now an art gallery and by chance had an exhibition on of Gregory Crewdson's photographs who is a photographer Alex and I love (google him!), so that was a bonus! It was lovely to see the beautiful building where Granny worked... and how they have renovated the area around it too...
We also played at Te Papa which is such a fabulous museum...
...and caught up with some more family on the outskirts of Welly...
...what?! Hehe! This is at the Wetta workshops who do a lot of the prosthetics for Peter Jackson's films..
Cool eh?!
Elizabeth and Ken put on a lovely Pot Luck tea for us and some of the family came to see us which was fab!
From left to right... Chris, Sam, Elizabeth, Ken, Simone, Scott, Jade and me!
So all in all a super time in Welly! Big thank you Ken and Elizabeth for having us :) x x x

Your Granny will be delighted to know that you have had a good time with her family in Wellington. What a lovely photo of her as a child with her brother and sister, also the one of my cousins - I recognised them all, and lovely to see you with your N.Z. cousins.
ReplyDeleteI told Granny about her old home being renovated. She remembers it as being a white house. When we visited in 2004 it was painted a Devon earth colour, and we saw it on the internet for sale some years later.
